Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies (UCRS) was inaugurated on January 1, 2010, as part of the government’s strategic initiative in the research field “politically important geographic regions.” At UCRS, there is a permanent staff of researchers at the center, but many more is associated with the center for varying periods of time – from both other departments and other institutions of higher learning, in Sweden and abroad.

Уппсальский центр российских и евразийских исследований (УЦРИ) – это единая междисциплинарная, долгосрочная исследовательская программа, уделяющая пристальное внимание последним событиям в России и на постсоветском пространстве. Она составлена таким образом, чтобы отвечать высочайшим международным стандартам научного мастерства, и охватывает гуманитарные и общественные науки.

Новый проект Центра истории исторического знания ИВИ РАН «Уроки ремесла»

В 2009 г. мы провели круглый стол «Трансформации исторических сообществ», на котором состоялся очень непростой разговор о том, что с нами произошло за последние двадцать лет. Этим Круглым столом мы заявили о своем интересе к тем процессам, которые происходили в исторической науке на протяжении ХХ столетия и происходят теперь.

«Уроки ремесла» – это осознанная рефлексия современного цеха историков по отношению к своим предшественникам. При этом для нас первостепенными являются вопросы кто, как, когда и почему фиксирует и передается историческое знание; почему именно эти люди, как происходит их социальный отбор, какие детерминанты определяют профессиональный и гражданский выбор историка и др.

“Eunamus” is a FP7 collaborative research project dedicated to the history, contemporary practices and future perspectives of European national museums. The project focuses on understanding the uses of the past in negotiations of citizenship and territorial belonging. Research within the program explores the institutional framework, the management of conflicts, strategies of representation, cultural policy and visitors’ experiences concerning national museums in Europe. “Eunamus” is a multi-disciplinary collaboration of eight leading university institutions.

Уважаемые коллеги!

Вместе с Ириной Ребровой, историком ВОВ из Краснодара, мы затеваем документальный проект "Письма войны". Идея в том, чтобы посмотреть на историю войн ХХ века, в которых участвовала российская империя/Советский Союз, сквозь призму военных писем. Мы бы хотели собрать относительно большую коллекцию писем («с войны» и «на войну») – начиная с японской и гражданской и заканчивая чеченской (включая обе мировые, а так же всякие локальные – финская, Вьетнам, Ангола, Афганистан). Очень хотелось бы представить местные, не очень хорошо известные, архивы. Изначально мы думали собрать письма о военной повседневности, но мы все прекрасно знаем, что здесь многое зависит от того, что именно попадется в архиве. Поэтому, наверное, придется тему расширить.

Приглашение к сотрудничеству и авторству: многотомная "Военная энциклопедия России и Евразии"

I am happy to announce to my colleagues on H-Russia that the Military Encyclopedia of Russia and Eurasia (MERE) will shortly resume publication. I have taken over from the former editor, David R. Jones, who edited volumes 1-8 of MERE during its first 20 years in print (for a list of entries in those volumes, please see www.ai-press.com).

I would like to invite all researchers and scholars with expertise in Russian, Eurasian and related military topics to write for MERE.

Interdisciplinary volume on the subject of socialist migrations during the Cold War period

We are soliciting contributions for an interdisciplinary volume on the subject of socialist migrations during the Cold War period. In the past decades it has become customary among scholars in both the social sciences and humanities to associate the rise of global interconnectedness specifically with the history of Western capitalist expansion. From the establishment of the Atlantic system of exchange in the 15th-16th century to the European scramble for Africa to the post-colonial modernizing agency of the ‘Black Atlantic’, scholars have focused overwhelmingly on the movement of people, goods, and ideas along North-South and East-West axes.

Call for contributors to a proposed edited volume on the theme of "Empires in the First World War."

The First World War marked both the apex and the beginning of the decline of the European imperial world system. In many respects, the movement of people, materiel, and finance across oceans and continents illustrated the power of empires and wedded many to the imperial project. In other respects, the extraction and movement of imperial resources exposed fissures within those empires that deepened in the postwar decades and finally broke the back of the European empires.

Конкурс для ученых-обществоведов на участие в программе подготовки публикаций в peer-reviewed journals в "Лаборатории Рональда Инглхарта"

Для двадцати ученых из России и других стран СНГ в период 2010-2012 будет организована серия методологических занятий в России и в США, в ходе которых будет проводиться анализ данных, собранных в основном в проекте World Values Survey. Результатом работы станет серия публикаций в ведущих журналах и выпуск монографий? а также формирование международной сети ученых, в которой российские специалисты будут связаны с ведущими американскими, европейскими и постсоветскими специалистами.

We are in the process of launching a book project on the subject of
Islamic calligraphy and architecture.

This book will differ from most past publications on the subject in that it will focus not purely on epigraphic content but rather on the relationship between content and form. More specifically, the book will analyze textual content, calligraphic style, material, and architectural function in their mutual interactions. Please see the
following for more details, including a tentative time table. The book will be in English, but contributions in other languages could be considered for translation.
