4 Research & Teaching Fellowships at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation designed to promote and enhance the principles and aims of the OSCE in the Central Asian region, enshrined in its fundamental idea of comprehensive security. Located in Bishkek, the OSCE Academy is strongly embedded in the wider Central Asian academic and political context and follows a distinctive regional approach in its activities.
The Academy is looking for four Teaching and Research Fellows for the following graduate level courses:
* Cases in International Relations
* Foreign Policy Analysis
* Political Economy
* Comparative Politics: Democratization Studies
Requirements:
The qualified candidate holds at least MA/MSc degrees, but preferably a PhD degree in Political Science, International Relations, and other related fields, and has a teaching experience.
The fellowship has the following terms and components:
1) A teaching assignment of one or two of the courses mentioned above
during the winter-spring semester, 2011 (early January - mid May).
These are four-credit courses, meeting twice a week from early January 2011 through mid May 2011. The period of contract is from 1 January to 30 May, 2011. The aim of the courses is to provide graduate level survey on these fields, introducing students to major approaches and theories, important topics, and contemporary developments. As such, the courses are expected to be taught on a graduate level involving lectures, seminars, research assignments, and individual student mentoring. Specific course topics as well as the course design should be discussed with the academic management of the OSCE Academy. Additionally, we expect the fellow to spend 6 hours per week for the preparation of lectures, seminars and grading/evaluation of student assignments
2) The fellowship also includes office hours for students of
approximately 4 hours a week.
3) Overall, the commitment at the Academy will not exceed 20 hours per
week. However, due to the nature of an academic environment, the load
may vary from about 15 to 25 hours per week. If teaching two courses,
the teaching load doubles.
During the rest of the time, the fellows are encouraged to conduct
their research and will receive full support of the Academy and our
partners. We expect the fellows to present their research to the
students and the greater audience at the end of the fellowship period with us.
4) Language of teaching is English
The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:
a) Economy class roundtrip airfare from the city of current residence
to Bishkek (international scholars);
b) Entry visa expenses to Kyrgyzstan, if any;
c) Housing allowance of 350 euros per month (for international fellows);
d) Honorarium of 750 Euros per month for teaching the four credit
course; (1500 euros, if teaching two courses)
e) 100 Euro one-time settling-in fee (for international fellows);
f) Office space and a computer, as well as access to all of our
facilities, including library and JSTOR.
g) Both local and international applicants are eligible to apply.
NOTE: The Academy will not be able to provide health insurance.
