Associate Professor of Modern German History (tenured) Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and Department of History The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University seeks to fill a tenure-line position in modern German history with an emphasis on the twentieth century. The search committee welcomes applications from candidates who are tenured, or tenurable, at the rank of Associate Professor. The appointment, which begins August 2010, is to the core faculty of the BMW Center for German and European Studies in SFS, with a joint appointment in the Department of History. The BMW Center fosters interdisciplinary scholarship in history, political science, economics, and cultural studies and is home to a distinguished master’s degree program. The Department of History offers two innovative master’s degrees as well as the Ph.D. Candidates for the position should hold a Ph.D. in History and should have a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching. Additional research interests in European and comparative history are desirable. Teaching load is two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) levels. The Department of Politics of Lake Forest College is seeking applications for a two-year, post-doctoral Fellow in U.S. founding principles and history, to begin in Fall semester, 2010. Topics of interest include: American Political Thought, Foundations of the American Republic, Roots of American Democracy, Creation of the American Constitution, the Founders and their Ideas, American Institutions and their Origins, and American Citizenship. The Fellow will also be expected to help cover, as appropriate, one or more of the department’s regular offerings in American political institutions. The position will involve half-time teaching (three course per year) and half-time research. Salary is competitive. The Department of Politics has six full-time faculty members and services a popular major. The department also offers many of the courses taken by students majoring in International Relations, an interdisciplinary program. The Division of the Social Sciences seeks to hire an assistant professor in the study of Japan from the perspectives of either Anthropology, Political Science, or Sociology. The successful applicant will have a tenure-track position in one of those disciplinary departments in the Division of Social Sciences. PhD should be in hand at the time of application. Applications are required to include 1) a cover letter of application that should include a description of your plans for research and teaching, 2) a curriculum vita, 3) a précis of your dissertation (Dissertation Abstract), and 4) one sample of strongest written material (published article or unpublished manuscript). Research Fellowship in Museum Anthropology

The Bard Graduate Center and the American Museum of Natural History announce a Research Fellowship in Museum Anthropology. The fellowship provides support to a postdoctoral investigator to pursue a project in association with a curator in the Division of Anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). We especially encourage applications from those with an interest in the history of collecting for anthropology museums in general, and in the AMNH’s Asian ethnographic collection in particular. The Fellow will also be expected to teach one graduate-level course per year at the Bard Graduate Center (BGC). The Fellow will thus be in joint residence at BGC and AMNH, beginning in September 2010 and continuing through June 2012. The fellowship includes free housing.
